2019 was the year of healing. After months of grieving for Spencer, I crawled out of the hole I was in and really tried to be selfish for once in my life and take care of myself. Therapy, surf, and some time just being me really helped heal the wounds. 2019 really flew by, and I know I am really REALLY late, but here are my highlights of 2019.
Spending more time with family. 2019 was filled with lots of family fun. The Fowler family did several trips to Hilo, the north shore, and the Wong family did our first group trip to Disneyland California. All of us together was organized chaos, non-stop laughter, and forever memories. I even had to get us all matching shirts for Disneyland!
One week on a boat in Tahiti. Tahiti in August was one of those life changing trips. Living on a boat in the Pacific for a week was liberating and really put life in perspective. What do we really need in life? I need family, best friends, and a smile on my face – that’s really enough. Well, I guess you need enough money to fly to Tahiti and charter a boat 😉 I ignited that flame inside me on this trip – that flame of adventure and curiosity. I have to remember to not stay stagnant, take risks, and break out of the mold. I still can’t put it all into words, but I know there’s more out there for me than just the norm.
Waffles Sunshine Sandy Fowler . We finally got a dog! Once we were finally ready, I told Steve we should just see what happens and let it come to us. After a couple of things just falling into place, we met a rescue litter of 4 puppies. One of them stood out to us and really seemed to pick us. Steve also really took to her and after a couple weeks we welcomed Waffles into our lives. This sweet soul was born on August 22, 2019, and Spencer passed on August 21st 2018, so I really believe he brought us her. Waffles fits so well into our family and our active lifestyle. We are so lucky to have her.
2020 feels like an exciting year. We have several trips lined up, I’m turning 40, and Steve and I are also celebrating our 10 year anniversary of marriage. A month and a half in already and I just feel different. I feel wiser, lighter, and cautiously optimistic for the first time in awhile. One of my goals this year is to read more books and write more blogs. Cheers to 2020!
