Pop-up restaurants on Oahu are all the craze and seem to be the perfect answer to creative chefs getting their food out despite the high restaurant rent and overhead. Everyone in town has been talking about The Pig and the Lady and how I MUST GO.
I’m all about the latest and greatest food venues around town, but I have to say these pop-up restaurants and food truck events are not my favorite, especially during dinner. If I’m going to go out to dinner besides the food being exceptional, I except to have good service, seating, and atmosphere.
My biggest pet peeves about eating at a pop-up restaurant or food truck event:
- No place to sit, so you have to stand and eat.
- Eating dinner on plastic chairs or a hard wood picnic bench (and you’re not camping).
- When the venue is so ghetto that when you byob they don’t have wine openers or supply you cups for your booze.
- No public restrooms.
So to answer my question, “Why I haven’t been to The Pig and the Lady?” I am not looking forward to fighting crowds of people for a plastic fold out chair at the farmer’s market, standing and eating my food on the side of their tent, or have the ability to follow them on Facebook and Twitter to figure out where they might be this Saturday night to make dinner plans.
Hopefully, Vivian will just end up dragging me with her one Thursday night to the Kailua Farmer’s Market, and I can see what all the hype is about!
