Covid-19 has eliminated my desire to dine in even though most restaurants have opened. Since March we have tried almost every takeout place in Kailua. Here are a few of my favorite takeout spots.
Easy ‘Que If you love brunch at Over Easy, then you’ll surely love their sister restaurant Easy ‘Que. This place serves “Aloha BBQ,” but my overall review of Easy ‘Que and Over Easy is that it’s just downright delicious food! Everything you get here is lick the plate good. My favorites are the brisket with the Kailua Green sauce, the Brussel chips, and the mac and cheese. They also do a mean happy hour and do have outdoor seating for germaphobes like me. The best thing about take out here is they use all compostable green take out and paper goods, you can pay/order online, and they will bring the order out to your car.
Goen If you’re feeling like a little splurge, Goen is an excellent take-out choice. They have regular specials like the Omakase Sushi Box or Taco Tuesday packs. You can get the famous Roy’s Misoyaki Butterfish or even a gourmet burger. I love the Hauula Butter Leaf Salad and the Salmon bento. Their menu is constantly changing so check out their Instagram or website for updates.
Aloha Salads I probably go here for lunch or snack takeout once a week. I usually get the Tomato Bisque soup or the Turkey Club Sub on pita bread, but everything on their menu is excellent. I can always count on them for fresh, fast, and delicious food. Download their app too for points and discounts for frequent diners.
Kono’s This is my breakfast takeout go-to spot. I love their huge breakfast burritos or Bombers as they call them. They have several choices, but my favorite is the Haleiwa Bomber that comes with Kalua pork, egg, potatoes, cheese, in a flour tortilla. It also comes with homemade salsa! Kono’s also has (in my opinion) the BEST handcrafted milkshakes! My son loves the Peanut Butter and Strawberry milkshake!
Thursday’s Farmers Market Thursday nights are usually a take out night for our family thanks to the convenience of multiple vendors in one place. Our go-to is The Pig and The Lady, but Grandma G’s Ono Grindz or the Honolulu Burger Company are also some favs. Along with dinner, we can also get fruits and vegetables for the week or other great snacks or products from the other local vendors.
It is now more important than ever to support our local neighborhood eateries. Support local, leave big tips, and spread the word to show your support and appreciation. Do you have any favorite take out spots in Kailua? Please share in the comments!
